The Code is a concise, 4 inch by 6 inch, 240-page pocketbook version of Title 16 and Title 40, The Criminal and Traffic Code of Georgia. It breaks down the key components of Georgia criminal and traffic law into a manageable, quick reference guide. This book is for lawyers new and old, as well as non-lawyers. It is for defense attorneys and prosecutors, judges and law students, law enforcement and legal staff. The content is both neutral and simplified, so that the book is beneficial to anyone who needs either a quick refresher or a general understanding of how Georgia criminal or traffic law operates.
In order to facilitate the user, the book has been divided into 12 chapters. The book does not contain every crime listed in Title 16 or 40. The crimes were selected based on how commonly they are charged and their relationship to other crimes. Each crime is divided into 3 parts: (1) the crime as stated in the statute, in relevant part, (2) any case law or statutory definitions that help to explain the statute, and (3) the punishment for the crime, in relevant part. The punishment section has been highlighted for the user’s convenience. The book also contains separate sections on Defenses and Sentencing.
